Exhaling H2O2
This latest installment on the natural occurrence of H2O2 strikes close to home - like our own bodies. Levels of 210 - 720 ppb H2O2 have been reported in the breath of normal healthy individuals. While this may not seem like much, it amounts to about 1.5 lbs-100% H2O2 over a lifespan of 70 years.
NOTE: H2O2 is normally found in each aerobic cell as an endogenous metabolite. It is generated during cell respiration by various metabolic processes (e.g., oxidase-catalyzed reactions), by oxidative stress (i.e., superoxide anion degradation by superoxide dismutase) and by patho-physiological reactions such as those involving activated phagocytes.
