Metering peroxide solutions presents special problems for
most existing pump technologies. The hydrogen peroxide tends to
out-gas as the solution is drawn, into the pump head and causes
vapor lock and thus loss of flow. When gas accumulates in the
head of a reciprocating pump, the piston (or diaphragm) simply compresses the gas with each
stroke and cannot draw fluid into the chamber, creating the "vapor lock" syndrome.

ProMinent Fluid Controls, Inc. offers a new self-deaerating pump head for the Gamma/4a series low flow pumps. The deaerating head utilizes a proprietary air relief valve to automatically vent any gas accumulated in the suction line or pump head. This valve closes when fluid is present in the head, causing fluid to be discharged normally. By doing so, the pump can self prime continuously against discharge line pressure. This is especially valuable in intermittent operations when the pump is allowed to sit idle, and gas accumulates in the suction line.
The deaerating pump head can be obtained in PVC which is compatible
with peroxide solutions up to 50% strength.
