Sixty-five people gathered for a day of information exchange on March 1st, at the Hyatt Regency, Irvine. Several peroxide experts including Monica Tarver and Mike Fagan from FMC's Princeton, NJ research facility, gave informative presentations.
Chloe Dao of Orange County Sanitation spoke on the County's experiences in their recent change over from chlorine for odor control / prechlorination to hydrogen peroxide (see Chloe Dao Interview Article).
This was followed by a lunch time tour of Orange County's 180
mgd Plant No. 2, where CSDOC's Doug Cook proved a fountain of information.
Garth De Bruyn of ProMinent rounded off the day with a discussion
on specialized metering and control equipment.

Bob Ooten accepted the FMC Environmental Honor Roll award on behalf of County Sanitation Districts of Orange Country from Barry Schwartz of FMC. Bob was presented a plaque, crystal trophy, and $500 check which was donated to the CWPCA Kurt Brooks Scholarship Fund.
The award was given for the replacement of chlorine with hydrogen
peroxide at both of the Sanitation Districts' large treatment
facilities; the 180 mgd Huntington Beach plant and the 80 mgd
Fountain Valley facility. This project had won first prize in the Liquid Treatment Division
at last year's national WEF poster session in Chicago for Bob
Ooten, Chloe Dao and Doug Cook. It also won the 1993 SARBS Research
Achievement Award for Chloe Dao.
